Walsh Island played Clonbullogue in the first match of the Division 2 league on Sunday, 20th Feb in Walsh Island and started the campaign with an impressive 8 point victory. Playing against the breeze in the first half, the Island exchanged points with Joe Nolan, William Mulhall, Barry Duffy and the impressive Alan Mulhall (Full Forward) all on the mark. Both sets of forwards looked lively with very few chances missed.

At the break, both teams were level at six points each. With the aid of the strong breeze, Walsh Island looked to stamp their authority on the game. Points from Mulhall and Ross Connor gave them the edge but a well worked move from midfield resulted in a well taken goal by Clonbullogue. Walsh Island responded immediately from the kick out and the energetic William Mulhall dispatched neatly to the back of the net.

The midfield now took control with Ross& Rory Connor in good fielding form, laying good possession for the full forward line. Another high ball to Alan Mulhall was fisted to the net. The Clonbullogue keeper made three fine saves to keep their chances alive and another well taken goal by the Clonbullogue corner forward gave them a lift but points from Rory Connor, Ross Connor and Rory Connolly sealed victory.
